Shravan Month

Jai shree Krishna, Know the importance of Holy Month Shravan

Right kind of knowledge, logical understanding of scriptures and avoidance of superstitious beliefs is what is spirituality all about. For a spiritual person nothing is more important than purushartha (effort, action, deed) and surrendering at the feet of God.

Samudra Manthan , The churning of the milky ocean, i.e. Samudra Manthan in search of the amrit(Nectar), took place during the month of Shravan. During the churning, 14 different rubies emerged from the ocean. Thirteen rubies were divided among the dev (God) positive and the asur (Dewil) Negative thougts however, Halahal, the 14th ruby remained untouched as it was the deadliest poison which could destroy the whole universe and every living being. Both decided to throw it away but Shiv prevented them from doing so by saying that if poison is thrown away, the world will be destroyed. So, eventually to save the world, Shiv himself consumed it. The poison was held by Shiva in the neck only because if it is thrown out, then the universe will get destroyed. So he had to hold it in his neck and because of this, his neck turned blue in colour. From then onwards he was also called by the name “Neelkanth” meaning blue throat. All gods thereafter started offering Milk,Gangajal (water from the River Ganga) and flowers, etc.to Bhagvan Shiva to lessen the effect of poison. Since, this happened in the month of Shravan, devotees also offer Gangajal,Milk, flowers etc to Bhagvan Shiva in this month.

Bhagvan Shiv, who held the poison in his throat, indicates that we should also not spit these negativities on others nor allow them to go down deep within us. We should hold them at a safe place within us for some time that they neither affect us nor destroy others, and at the earliest opportunity neutralise these negativities through positive emotions.
The Nakshatra Shravan is the ruling Star on full Moon day and therefore this month has been named as Shravan, Astrology more specifically predicts the behaviour of stars and their vibratory influence on human beings.
As per astrophysics, metaphysics and other sciences of physics, which deals with matter and energy, and their interaction and behaviour, every moving matter emanates some vibratory affect (energy) which, in turn, influences other matter and beings in this universe.
Performing the Lord’s worship during this auspicious month can bring several great benefits to the lives of devotees, who are blessed by the grace of Shiv.

The Mondays of Shravan Maas or Shravan Somvars are the most auspicious days for Bhagvan Shiva’s worship. Performing Rudrabhishek pooja during Shravan Somvars can help one attain great physical and spiritual wellbeing.
